"Me, Menopause?"

“Menopause, Really?”

One statistic reveals at any given time there are 45-million women “going through” Menopause.

Exactly what does “going through” mean? Does it mean there are 45 million women perpetually sweating at night, angry at the world, not interested in sex and instead finding comfort in a bottle of wine each night?

A new U.S. poll finds a majority of women are “going through” Menopause without help. The poll finds seven out of ten women who have menopause symptoms are not being treated.

Menopause isn’t a quick trip to the next phase of your life. For a majority of women, Menopause isn’t simply an uncomfortable three hour cross country plane ride in the middle seat.  Rather, it’s more a slow jog or in some cases, slog, with lots of hills and valleys along the way.

Recently, the Endocrine Society commissioned a survey of 810 women between 45 and 60 years old. The survey found a majority of women with Menopausal symptoms haven’t talked with their doctor about their symptoms or potential treatment options.

While women experience Menopause in their own individual way, symptoms include hot flashes, unexplained weight gain, difficultly sleeping, vaginal dryness and mood swings.

Currently there is a lot of confusing, contradictory information about ways to manage menopause.

MyFit50 will review the latest medical journals and talk with health experts to give you the most up-to-date information to help you “own your decade.”
